When my vegan diet veered toward a more WFPB one and away from processed sugar, I was on the lookout for a sugar substitute. Maple syrup seemed to be the direction to take, but boy is it expensive!
It may be tempting to buy a small amount at a time as the initial price is less, but by buying it in a liter you will save more money over time. If you are doing WFPB, you may be using it to bake with, and those little bottles will not last for more than a couple of recipes.
I have found the best price for maple syrup in my area is at Costco. The price fluctuates either way about a dollar, from $10.50 to $11.50. This is for the 1 liter size, which is 33.8 oz. It happens to be organic, too!
Compared to buying this elsewhere, this is a great savings!
A small bottle at my local Safeway costs $9.09/8.5 oz., which per unit costs about 70% more than Costco!
Maple syrup also goes really well on my vegan buttermilk pancakes!
