These are the ribs I made and shared recently with my Penny Pantry Facebook Group.
I have been making these for many years, and as such did not remember where I got the recipe from! I had a printed copy, but no author listed. I did some digging, and found the recipe on the PETA website. Recipe for the Vegan BBQ Ribs HERE:
I love sharing what I cook, but I am also a stickler for giving proper credit for a recipe. I was happy to find a link I could share with you all!
About the ingredients: The one item you may not have on hand is Vital Wheat Gluten. I buy this flour in bulk from my local Natural Food Store. You can also find it on Amazon, and this is a good deal for a one pound pack. You can save more by buying in larger packs, too. I often order this Nutritional Yeast from Amazon as well.
For the BBQ Sauce: You can use any you like, including store-bought or homemade. For the ones I made recently, I made a homemade BBQ Sauce. Here is an easy recipe you may like for vegan BBQ Sauce.
For the Ribs: Since we are peanut-free, I used Wow Butter (a soy butter) instead of the peanut butter. I think any nut butter would work well. You can make the ribs 100% in the oven, or partially on the grill. I have only made these in my oven.
The photos below show how I cut the ribs. I have experimented with different ways of doing this. The easiest I have found is to use my kitchen scissors. I do NOT re-cut when the instructions ask you to, I only cut them once as I like them to hold together a bit.
I always make a TRIPLE batch of this recipe, and it fits well in my 2 pans below.
Notes: My family absolutely loves these! They are super yummy, especially good with a baked potato, potato salad, mac & chz or rice on the side and a nice green salad. They are even good cold the next day, perfect for sandwiches.
